76th anniversary of the Nakba

The Communist Parties and people of the world carried out numerous activities to commemorate the 76th anniversary of the Nakba (the catastrophe); the forced expulsion of more than 700,000 Palestinians from their land between 1947 and 1948 following the destruction of hundreds of villages by the Zionist State of Israel.

On this anniversary, the Palestinian Communist Party issued a statement remembering the Nakba martyrs and reaffirming once again the justice of their cause: «O masses of our struggling Palestinian people, we, in the Palestinian Communist Party, In light of the war of genocide being waged against our people in the Gaza Strip, we renew our call, first: to form a broad national front to resist the occupier and his helpers and confront the war of genocide and ethnic cleansing within a political program that represents the minimum for all Palestinian forces; second: work to restructure the Palestine Liberation Organization on a revolutionary national basis so that it includes all Palestinian forces without excluding anyone; and thirdly: work with all the liberation forces in the world that support the cause of our people to create an international situation that imposes a comprehensive boycott of the entity. These combined factors are sufficient to overthrow this entity and the establishment of an independent and democratic Palestinian State, with full sovereignty over the entire Palestinian national territory, ‘a State for all its people.'»

Israel continues its genocidal offensive in Gaza

Zionist forces have stepped up their assault on Gaza with operations in the populous city of Rafah in the south of the Strip and Jabilia in the north, as more evidence of war crimes carried out by Israeli soldiers comes to light. An estimated 450,000 Palestinians have fled Rafah to avoid a massacre.

Meanwhile, divisions between the Zionist government factions in Tel Aviv deepen. The Defense Minister has sent an ultimatum to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over his post-war administration plan for Gaza.

In just one day, last May 8, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Human Rights counted 34,735 deaths in Gaza, of which 9,500 were women and 14,500 children.

Fight within international organizations

On May 10, the United Nations (UN) General Assembly voted to assign “new rights and privileges” to Palestine and called on the Security Council to reconsider its application for membership – but at the same time, reaffirmed the current status. of «observer» that the country has.

The resolution was approved with 143 votes in favor ─including Venezuela─ and nine against ─United States, Israel, Argentina, Czech Republic, Hungary, Micronesia, Nauru, Palau and Papua New Guinea. There were 25 abstentions; much less than a resolution calling for a «humanitarian truce» that was voted on in October 2023 and which registered 45 abstentions.

Meanwhile, the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Karim Khan, has announced that he will request arrest warrants against the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, and the leader of Hamas, Yahya Sinwar, in addition to the Minister of Defense of Zionism, Yoav Gallant, and two other senior Hamas officials, Mohammed Diab Ibrahim al-Masri and Ismail Haniyeh. All are accused of war crimes and crimes against humanity. This is the first time that the ICC has requested the arrest of an Israeli leader.

Likewise, the trial against Israel in the International Court of Justice – at the request of South Africa – continues. The Zionist Government alleges that the African nation «has distorted the truth» by accusing it of committing genocide in Gaza. As part of the case, South Africa seeks to force Tel Aviv to allow unrestricted access to Gaza for humanitarian workers, journalists and researchers, as well as supplies for the Palestinians; in addition to stopping the offensive in Rafah. Despite the trial, several governments have reaffirmed their support for Tel Aviv, with London and Berlin ratifying their commitments to sell weapons to the Zionist regime.
